Famous Among Friends: Slim Margins

A collection of casual convo's with dear pals
1

4 years ago tonight Corri and I had plans to get married on the beach. Instead, we sat alone together in a sad silence, watching a pristine sunset on a rare windless evening. It seems every time someone does a beach wedding the wind swells up but that night would have been perfect. A few months later, in the heigh of the apocalyptic feeling summer of 2020, I made a few terrible decisions that lead to our final separation. I packed up a rented mini-van with my belongings and left Seattle, our cat George, and our relationship that had struggled immensely in the rear-view mirror. The journey to how we could go from that moment, to sitting together at the park in Green-Lake laughing about it all 3 years later is winding and wonderful. We both dug our heels in to personal healing, she became a therapist and I dove into singing bowls. We reconnected slowly and found that there’s an understanding, an unlikely friendship that can exist between us that is incomparable to anything else I’ve known. We met in June of this year and sat at Green Lake in Seattle to record this conversation. We learned that day that we had accidentally gotten matching tiger tattoos. I hope you find the laughter, the palpable forgiveness, and the content to resonate peacefully.

The end of the last letter Corri gave me before I left said, “You are an undeserved gift to the universe and I hope someday you will learn to see yourself the way I see you.” I am eternally grateful for my chance to know her, to love her, to lose her, and to find a kinship…a secret knowing that although certainly was never meant to blossom into a partnership, has forever changed my life and shown me how to love the deep, dark parts of my self I was scared of. A few weeks ago she called me to say that she was moving and needed to re-home George. I flew up and hung for a day or two, even got to meet (and instantly develop a man-crush for) her boyfriend. Life is weird and wonderful. I have a few other recorded conversations I intend to release this year. Please let me know if you dig, try to ignore how often I use “like” as a crutch, and know that all episodes going forward will be recorded in my studio not with an iPhone mic. It’s slim margins man….the odds of anything working out. All we can do is keep learning, forgiving, loving, and opening to all the beautiful lessons the universe wants to teach us. Happy New Year folks, thanks for tuning in.

From silence to silence, with great joy:
